Informal Structures

"Look at the ways people go beyond the formal structure." (Beyer & Holtzblatt, 1998, p. 94).  This is something I haven't looked at in past field studies.  It looks like something that's relevant to design on a school by school or classroom by classroom basis.  Might be worth considering, for example, to help teachers in a particular classroom figure out the best way to arrange computers or to help a school administrator figure out how to manage technical support.
